overview

Alongside the South Peninsula Municipality, we provide antiretroviral treatment and HIV care at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Treatment Centre in Masiphumelele.

This clinic, which is a double-storey annex to the municipal primary health clinic, is predominantly nurse run. A dedicated medical practitioner attends part-time to run specific clinics and see new patients. Together, this team serves more than 1,000 clients a month in the Masi, Red Hill, and Ocean View areas.

Current projects being conducted at this clinic, in addition to the provision of ARVs, include an adolescent-friendly program encouraging young people to seek help early for health and social problems, and a PMTCT (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission) programme.

Progress to date

The Foundation's activities in this area have expanded so vigorously over the past few years that we are looking for more clinical accommodation by modifying the current double-storey building.
